The first day of an introduction week like the INKOM, marks a special moment for all the new students of Maastricht University and Zuyd Hogeschool. It’s with a lot of good memories of past years that we, Ashika and Brian, stood at the registration point of this wonderful week this morning. The big-eyed, tiny bit intimidated first-year students looked at us as we were snapping pictures for the blog and for Facebook.
Before meeting their mommies and daddies (what the older students are called that have volunteered to lead a group of “freshers”), the young students are put together, listening to an English-speaking MC, who’s making them laugh and gets them excited for the rest of the day, with the official Opening of the INKOM taking place that evening.
There was an information market with several stands of political student organisations, expat and exchange associations and the trusty provider of coffee for Maastricht ‘Coffeelovers’ was also supplying the masses with caffeine.
In the evening the Opening took place. With performances of the well-known Dutch artist Nielson, and We had a good position to take the atmosphere, the artists and the whole scenario in, the balcony of the Town Hall of Maastricht.
